This unique golfing event was an opportunity for you golfer and sponsors to help raise funds that will impact the lives of local families served by the Bloomsburg Soup Kitchen and AGAPE. Hundreds of children and adults will receive help from AGAPE as a result.

Chevrolet “Military Salute Program”

You can show your support for Pennsylvania’s Military Service Members by casting your vote for one of the Chevrolet Military Salute in Pennsylvania finalists. Our local representative is also the son of one of our loyal guests. Please review the below information for Brent Troy (pictured, below in center photo) and cast your ballot ASAP and don’t be shy to leave a comment or two to inspire others. The military service member who receives the most votes will be honored with a hometown celebration not to be forgotten, filled with the winner’s friends, family, Chevrolet vehicle loans, and a few other surprises. This program continues to demonstrate Chevrolet’s longstanding commitment to the military, which dates back to WWII, where we assisted in the production of wartime materials and vehicles.

Independence Chevrolet-Cadillac’s support continues today, with a 20% off service work for those who serve and have served our country, as well as the GM Military Discount Program, our ongoing collections for Cell Phones for Soldiers, and our support of military organizations including the Achilles Freedom Team and the Travis Manion Foundation.

Our local service member in the spotlight is Spec. E4 Brent Troy serving in the United States Army from Ringtown.

Spec. E4 Troy’s sister, Shelly, says that as the oldest of three children raised on a farm, she always looked out for her younger siblings. But according to her, the role reversed the day her brother turned 18. Troy signed up to serve in the United States Army, becoming the third generation in his family to do so. He has unselfishly served in the United States and Iraq and is scheduled to deploy to the Middle East again next year. Troy views his role in the military not as a job but rather his duty to his country and the family he loves. His sister says, “He has sacrificed so much, but makes it seem like nothing.”

Bloomsburg Fair Merchandise/Food Stands at our dealership

Dozens of food and merchandise stands that had been bound for the canceled Bloomsburg fair have instead set up in parking lots along Route 11, and six wonderful vendors were right here at Independence Chevrolet-Cadillac. Regular customers of the fair have been coming out to enjoy some of their favorite foods, and have praised the dealership for its support. Angela Young, daughter of one of the owners of Cain’s Pancake House located in front of the showroom said Fair regulars have been coming out and are very happy to visit.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” is the American Cancer Society’s premier event to raise awareness and dollars to fight breast cancer. More than just the name of a walk, it describes the amazing progress we’re making together to defeat this disease. This is your opportunity to celebrate breast cancer survivors, educate about early detection/prevention, and raise money to fund lifesaving research and to support programs to reach a day when no one will have to hear the words “You have breast cancer."

For nearly a decade Bloomsburg University has sponsored the event and will be held Sunday, October 30 from 1 to 3 pm (registration at 11 am). The fee is $25 the day of the event, or $20 if you are pre-registered (see instructions at www.bloomu.edu/multicultural ). This local Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run is in its ninth year and has raised an average of nearly $10,000 a year. All proceeds are given to the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC), which means the money stays in Pennsylvania. The PBCC is a state-wide non-profit organization that uses the donations for supportive programs and services, education, early detection and research.

The coalition strives to assist women diagnosed with breast cancer, to support the families of women who die from it and to serve as a resource for those currently living with the cancer. Approximately 9,500 women in Pennsylvania will be diagnosed with breast cancer every year, with 2,200 women dying from the cancer. For more information about The PA Breast Cancer Coalition visit the organization’s website http://www.pabreastcancer.org/ .

Independence Chevrolet-Cadillac recently partnered with the Red Rock Job Corps to work with automotive technician students on the changing landscape of the automobile industry. Our Leader of Business Development, Pat Hill, recently facilitated a discussion forum regarding teambuilding, training, certification, and job search steps with students accompanied by instructors from the technician and body shop classes.

Job Corps is a no-cost education program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 through 24 improve the quality of their lives through vocational and academic training. Funded by Congress, Job Corps has been training young adults for meaningful careers since 1964. Job Corps' mission is to attract eligible young people, teach them the skills they need to become employable and independent, and place them in meaningful jobs or further education.

Due to a lack of funding in difficult economic times, employees of Independence Chevrolet-Cadillac raised money amongst themselves to help support a local animal shelter. Over $50 worth of food and cleaning supplies were donated to the Bloomsburg/Danville ASPCA.

Dealership co-sponsors university fundraising event

Independence Chevrolet-Cadillac was a proud sponsor of the First Annual charity basketball event between the Harlem Ambassadors and our very own Hometown Heroes at Bloomsburg University’s Nelson Field-house.

Huge thanks to the Bloomsburg Lions Club for their instrumental planning with bringing in a night of fun that helped benefit local health/wellness programs as well as the Men’s College Basketball Team Scholarship Fund.

The dealership thanks all the “Hometown Heroes” who were great sports and took to the hard-court with the Harlem Ambassadors semi-professional basketball team.

SPRING 2011 AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOODMOBILE

A comfortable self-contained bloodmobile mobile unit was parked along the dealership front of the Used Vehicle Lot near the sales entrance recently. Guest parking was readily available and those who donated took part in our “canteen.” Many thanks for bringing your family members and friends by to help us save another 100 lives.

A note from our friends of the Red Cross: Many people say that they have not given blood because they were never asked. Well, “Consider Yourself Asked.” Blood availability is a must. For example, last year more than 32,000 patients were treated at 26 trauma centers in Pennsylvania. One-third of our population is on blood thinners, posing a unique situation for trauma surgeons, neurosurgeons, and orthopedic surgeons. These patients rely on blood products to reverse the effects of blood thinners to allow lifesaving surgery to be done. In addition, when the blood supply is real low, Red Cross officials are forced to use medical approval to release blood on a case-by-case basis. “The lives of men, women and children can be at stake," said Molly Dalton, communications manager for American Red Cross, Northeastern Pennsylvania Blood Services Region. "We are urging everyone to make an appointment to give blood, and to keep that appointment. Don't leave it up to someone else."

Toys For Tots Winter 2010

BLOOMSBURG – Independence Chevrolet-Cadillac partnered with Toys for Tots to help bring joy to area children this holiday season. We have made our location available as a collection point for the toy drive. It's wonderful to help put a smile on the face of a child, especially during the holiday season. The dealership has a long-standing history of giving back to the community. We're thrilled to support Toys for Tots again this year.

The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during November and December each year and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community toys were dropped off to the showroom and the donated toys were picked as scheduled and have been distributed to area children in time for Christmas.

Bloomsburg Lions Club wind parade of lights

Patrick Hill and John Weyrauch are active members in the Bloomsburg Lions Club. The first ever Bloomsburg “WHLM Parade of Lights” brought Christmas to Downtown Bloomsburg on Black Friday. A couple dozen businesses and community organizations entered their floats and lit up Town Park, Market, 5th, East, and Main Streets while ushering Santa Claus to his cottage in Downtown Bloomsburg for the season.

The Grand Prize winner of the parade contest was the Bloomsburg Area Lions Club who featured a float of lights and live Christmas music with the local rock band "Mystery Fyre." In the photograph notice the large stage lit up with thousands of lights. For their efforts, the Lions Club of Bloomsburg earned a $1,000 prize, in which 100% will be used to help support and sponsor various youth programs as well as sight, environmental, and health initiatives in and around our community. The Lions are making a difference everyday, everywhere. We are proud to be active in their ongoing efforts.

2010 Veteran’s Day Event

A huge thanks to everyone who helped us celebrate VETERANS DAY at our dealership during the month of November by wearing red, white, and/or blue to the dealership to honor our veterans!

The Bloomsburg Red Cross provided decals for employees, guests, and vendors alike to wear when they arrived.
Donations of $5 per person were appreciated, about $100 was collected, and 100% of the proceeds went directly to support the veterans on behalf of the Bloomsburg Red Cross

Our local Red Cross Chapter works hard to provide their services to our community, as well as the Armed Forces Program.

We support local scouting!

Chevy and The Boy Scouts of America are now 100-years-old!

As you know, scouting builds more than just campfires.   Scouting builds character, values, community, & families.   Did you realize that in a recent study, 83% of men who were Scouts agreed that the values they learned in Scouting continue to be very important to them still today?

Independence Chevrolet-Cadillac helped to process Trails-end orders to support local scouting.   The different types of re-sealable packages or microwavable popcorn and other snacks were on display in our showroom and guest lounge.   Trails End makes their Chocolaty Carmel Crunch, Carmel Corn, or Unbelievable Butter with Canola Oil and zero grams trans fat! Some individuals chose to donate a gift of popcorn to the men and women overseas serving our country as well.

2010 Muscular Dystrophy Association LOCK-UP

As one of Columbia and Montour Counties “Most Wanted” business and community service advocates, Patrick Hill (Leader of Business Development) participated with over 50 volunteers that were “Locked Up” to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.   Luckily, they were all let out for “good behavior!”

In all, Independence Chevrolet-Cadillac raised nearly $500 to contribute to the exceptional total raised of almost $16k to the MDA.   Thanks for your participation, as you have made a difference in the fight against muscular dystrophy.

The dealership was awarded with a “Thank You For Your Support” framed piece of artwork, created 100% by a child who was sent to camp last year through our collective efforts.   It now hangs proudly in our guest lounge.   We are proud to make a difference for Jerry’s Kids.

Your donated “Bail Money” will go straight to the MDA to support: Rising costs for the administration of flu shots, conducting research, support group sessions, physical/occupational/respiratory therapy consultations, diagnostic work-ups, maintenance of durable medical equipment, & covering children in need to attend the MDA summer camp.   MDA ’s Bloomsburg area heath care service program thanks you.

2010 Child and Infant Safety Seat Inspection Station Event

Thank you for participating in our first annual STATE POLICE INFANT & CHILD SAFETY SEAT INSPECTION STATION.

Families we spoke to commented about how they didn’t realize their infant or child safety seats were installed incorrectly.   Peace of mind and positive fellowship was enjoyed by all who attended.

Thanks to Officer Runkle and his staff for their commitment to our community.

Notes from our friends of the National Highway Safety Team:

Approximately 40 percent of children under the age of eight injured in crashes are completely unbelted.

It is estimated that about 80% of car seats are misused, either because a child is in the wrong seat, the seat is installed wrong, orthe child is not placed in the seat correctly.

Are you using your car seat correctly?

American Red Cross Blood Drive

The Northeastern Pennsylvania American Red Cross and Independence Chevrolet-Cadillac worked together to collectively help replenish our community blood supply by hosting a special blood drive in September.   Enough blood was collected to save approximately 30 people's lives.   Employees, customers and other community members participated.   In 2011, the dealership will sponsor two events and we are looking forward to even more success in the future.   We would like to thank the area Red Cross volunteers as well as participants who made a donation

Chevy Youth Soccer Donation for 2010 Season

Chevrolet has expanded the support of youth sports through a grassroots, community outreach program called Chevy Youth Soccer.   The program brings together America's favorite brand, with the fastest growing sport. Independence Chevrolet-Cadillac here in Bloomsburg is thrilled be the first dealership in our area to kick off the program, Chevy Youth Soccer.   Chevrolet is most notably recognized on the national level as the "Official Vehicle of Major League Baseball."   Chevrolet has expanded the support of Major League Baseball down to youth baseball players through the wildly successful Chevy Youth Baseball Program.
On Saturday, the Bloomsburg area AYSO received 20 brand new soccer balls for their players, ranging in age from five-year-olds to teen-agers.   A monetary donation of $500 was given to the AYSO Board Members to help their league with operating costs.   And, they are in the process of pre-planning a potential fundraiser, as an opportunity for the league to raise additional funds for their use in field maintenance, etc.  Bloomsburg AYSO is eligible to receive 2,000 fundraiser entry tickets to distribute, and the league keeps 100% of proceeds raised.   At the end of the fundraiser, a Grand Prize winner among the various leagues in the Northeastern region will be able to select a Brand New Chevrolet!

We are looking forward to a great season with Bloomsburg AYSO that will be filled with exciting games and an enhanced experience for teams through the equipment and cash donations,” Patrick Hill, Leader of Business Development said.   “Chevrolet Youth Soccer is just one example of how committed our dealership is to supporting the youth and families in our community.   We are truly humbled by the customers that place their trust in us every day.  We are committed to be deserving of that trust by never forgetting that we are only here because of you.

2010 Learning For Life and Independence Chevrolet Assembly

Independence Chevrolet Manager of Business Development, Patrick Hill, was a guest at the Bloomsburg Middle School, to participate in Career Day for grades four through six.   The event was exceptionally coordinated by Anne Poler with Learning For Life.   Learning For Life offers  educational programs designed to meet the needs of youth and schools.   They help youth meet the challenge of growing up by teaching character and good decision-making skills, and then linking those skills to the real world. Patrick held an interactive discussion with students about how communications plays a vital role in any field they choose.   He also described how communications can take a person through several different career paths, and how it has led him to his position at the dealership.   The students participated in a game show at the end to review understanding of the presentation.   Students were encouraged to write a short summary of what they learned and how they can apply the information to their studies and considerations for potential career choices.   The winning student essay submitted wins a pizza party for his/her class.
